I guess I should introduce myself at this point, and talk a little bit about what I hope to achieve with this blog.
First off, I live in San Diego with my wife and our two little ones. Previously to starting my photography business, I worked in Sales primarily, doing just about 10 years with UPS, IBM, and an IBM Business partner. While I loved the work, I went through 2 hard layoffs (and actually one more in 2001 in San Francisco during the tech melt-down), and found myself at a point while wanting to return to the information technology sales workplace, I also wondered if this might be a good time to try and create something out of a true passion. Hence the birth of Bryan Oster Photography.
Photography for me is an endeavor to see all the little things in life that commonly escape my view as I go about my day-to-day life. So I like to document my life, the places I go, the people I meet, etc. But further narrowing in on what I really like to document, it’s people. I know this because as I look back on pictures I’ve taken since the 6th grade, my favorites are always of people. And so my business is focused on making images of just that: families, children, head shots, portraits, and the like.
Surely this blog will evolve as time goes by, but right now, I’m writing to try and give others an idea of who I am as a photographer, what I do, and what I have to offer. As well I’m seeking to be part of a community of people, sharing ideas on the craft of photography, it’s instruments and practices, and basically putting out there what I’m learning and hopefully generating momentum by learning from those more experienced than myself.
So I hope you enjoy, and please feel free to leave any comments or suggestions you may have!
This is recent picture of me, taken by my wife, on our 7th Anniversary. Not only do I have the best friend ever, but she also manages to make me look not so scruffy.
