Recently I headed out to Vista to take some photos at a dance studio, A Step Above. Wasn’t really sure what to expect, but when I showed up Sunday night at 6 pm, the strip mall the studio is in was dark and quiet…..except for the corner that houses A Step Above. There were people lined up out the door, and as I made my way inside, it was packed with young girls and some parents. While I’d been expecting fame since I was 13, I’d sort of given up hope, but it seemed at long last that people were coming out of the woodwork to catch a glimpse of my genius. Oh, then I found out that Vinny Castronovo was out from the East Coast on a tour of the US, giving hip hop clinics. I’ll guess I’ll have to keep waiting for my turn…..
So Vinny is a great dancer, and has a lot of energy, and was up in front of this small horde of girls wearing “I Love Vinny” shirts, and was doing a great job of not only teaching, but owning it. And then I found out he’s 15 (or just about to turn 15). 14! Anyhow, my hat is off to Vinny. Having found fame by appearing on the TV show “Americas Best Dance Crew,” Vinny has many more accomplishments at such a young age. This clinic was being c0-taught with resident instructor Quinnel, and Q, I hope I spelled your name right.
After a few glasses of wine, usually at weddings, I become (in my head) a fantastic dancer, but I must say, Vinny and Quinnel were a lot of fun to watch. Some of my favorites from the night…..
