San Diego Homecooking – Food Photography

People ask me what type of photography I do.  And I usually answer, “people and food.”  And the word “food” oftentimes elicits a quizzical look.  Well, at least I try; it’s a relatively new part of my business.

So why shoot food?  Outside of I just like to……… I really like the hours.   “Can I show up at your place on Tuesday at 10 a.m?  Yes I can!”  It’s just easier on my ‘family time’ than “can you meet me on Saturday at 4 pm?”  Don’t get me wrong.  I still love photographing new as well as familiar faces any time they’re free to do so.  Anyhow….I digress.

San Diego Homecooking is a 5 location restaurant I’ve shot images for a bunch over the last six months or so.  Each location, interiors and exteriors.  Plenty of food.  More food during a commercial they filmed out at the Sysco Test Kitchen Facility, etc.  If you get a chance, visit one of the 5 locations and let me know what you think.

Oh.  Just realized that possibly the quizzical looks referenced above should be translated as “Bryan, why are you doing this?  Hasn’t it been done enough?”  And here I thought that they thought it was interesting…..

now, you’re makin me hungry! nice shoots!

  2. Nicely done, Bryan. One doesn’t usually see food shots with this sort of depth of field. I especially liked the Ruben sandwich and the two-egg breakfast, which were better laid-out to my eye. I’ve been trying to improve my DoF, so you’ve given me something to ‘shoot’ for. Thank you!
