I met this family just north of Windansea in La Jolla over the summer for a family portrait session, and the brother and sister were somewhere around 18 and 21 years of age (or so). They were a lot of fun, definitely more so than I would have been at that age had my parents dragged me out to do something so uncool as make lasting family memories. But I’m a slow learner. Anyhow.
Hanging out with these people for a little over an hour, on a beautiful summer evening, really brought me back to when I had just graduated college. That particular summer after finishing up at school, I lived on La Jolla Blvd. right across from the 7-11 (for those in the know). Surfing, eating Mexican food, drinking a few beers, working a little, reading, {insert various leisure activities not excluding frisbee golf here}, etc., I lead what was to be the closing of a pretty idyllic life. Now I photograph a lot of families on the various La Jolla beaches, but for some reason these two young people brought the emotional memories forth. Was it really that long ago? Seems like just a few years, maybe.
Amazing how fast time flies. So live it up. Enjoy it. It is good…..
